Italy have a shot to grab the top spot in their European qualifying group, with Croatia and Norway facing off in an earlier match. If Croatia slip and Italy can grab all three points, this could prove to be an important stepping stone for Italy as they progress towards a place in Euro 2016 in France.
They'll have to make that progress on the road and without the services of injured engine-room midfielder Claudio Marchisio, but Bulgaria are pretty beaten up themselves. Todor Nedelev, Ivan Ivanov, and Ivan Cvorovic are all doubtful to be involved, costing Bulgaria a key attacker, starting defender, and a goalkeeping option. With a match against England coming up on Tuesday, Antonio Conte might go with a slightly understrength side against a lesser opponent, but considering that this is the one that's worth points and England is just a friendly, it shouldn't be too understrength.
UPDATE: Gianluigi Buffon is apparently out of tonight's match with the flu. Salvatore Sirigu will start in his place. Manuel Pasqual and Alessandro Florenzi are also unavailable tonight, while Andrea Bertolacci was called in to replace the injured Marchisio.
