The season is halfway gone, the holiday break is here, everyone is off with their families, and Napoli fans need something to cheer.
It's been a very up and down season for Napoli so far, but despite numerous injuries, setbacks, and disappointments, there is still plenty to celebrate. Given the time of year, why dwell on the negatives? Let's take a look at what's gone right.
First and foremost, what a season Marek Hamsik is having. Eight goals, eight assists, and countless huge plays and moments when he's put the team on his back and said "I got this." This has been a season when Napoli needed their captain to make an impact, and he has responded in a huge way.
He's not the only one, though. Dries Mertens has stepped up in a huge way too, stepping into an unfamiliar role as a false nine up top and, after an admittedly rough adjustment period, has made it his own. He's already did fifteen goals for Napoli this season in all competitions, including a stunning nine goals in his last four games. The Belgian has exploded into stardom this season, and it has been a joy to watch.
And those two are far from alone in being Napoli players enjoying strong seasons. Jose Callejon is enjoying perhaps his best season so far. Lorenzo Insigne has rebounded excellently from a slow start. Amadou Diawara has been excellent since breaking into the starting lineup, and Piotr Zielinski has been so strong as an attacking option in midfield that Maurizio Sarri has been hard pressed to find minutes for Allan despite the Brazilian being his usual solid self.
Sure, there are definitely nits to be picked and things to be less than satisfied about with Napoli this season, but that's not the point of the holidays. This is a time of cerebration and joy, so we ask you this: what are you happy about with Napoli's season so far?
