Gonzalo Higuain given Best Goal of the Year honors by Serie A

His overhead strike against Frosinone was declared the best goal scored in the league all season.

When Gonzalo Higuain broke the Serie A scoring record, he did it in spectacular fashion, scoring a bicycle kick to put Napoli up 4-0 over Frosinone and clinch CHampions League qualification with the same goal. That goal wound up being even bigger, though -- it won the Serie A Goal of the Season award.

While the importance of the goal is huge as the one that made Higuain the single-season record holder for goalscoring in Italy's top division, the pure quality of the goal is even bigger. Any bicycle kick is a tremendously difficult feat to pull off, but the way he did it is just jaw-dropping. He took that low, hard pass from Dries Mertens, chested it up, and then flipped over for the overhead kick. That control and quality is top-notch, and is fully deserving of this honor.

Sadly, it currently looks like that will also be the last goal Higuain will score with Napoli. Hopefully that's not the case, and there's plenty more Goal of the Year candidates from him to come.
