Please forgive me the repetition, but the theme of the day is nuptials. Later today the editor of The Siren Song, Conor Dowley, is getting married. But before that, we have an existing marriage to take care of. That between Marek Hamšík and Napoli.
You see, when Hamšík fired his longtime agent this summer, there was a lot of speculation that he might be looking to leave the club. The club at which he is just two goals shy of the all-time scoring record held by Diego “Freaking” Maradona. A club that he has spent a decade at. A club for which he means everything and vice versa.
It would have been a heartbreaking end to a long relationship.
But don’t worry! Hamšík is here to stay. His agent confirmed as much when he said “He married Napoli 10 years ago and has never wanted to move. He loves this city and these colours.” That’s the commitment that you want from your spouse, and it should do plenty to ease the nerves of fans who were concerned that he might be headed out.
At the very least he’s got a scoring record to break.
