Napoli are dominating in Serie A, but they’re somewhat adrift in the Champions League, sitting in third place thanks to two disappointing losses halfway through the group stage. But last time out, they gave Manchester City a fight in England, and this time those two teams face off in the San Paolo, and Napoli will be hoping to stun their massive foes this time around.
To do that, Napoli need to come flying out of the gates, like we’ve seen them do before. They can’t afford to let Manchester settle into this match at all — they need to punch them in the teeth and keep them off-balance for as long as possible.
Fortunately, Maurizio Sarri is starting Napoli’s first-choice lineup for this match. The combined absences of Allan and Jorginho left Napoli somewhat out of sorts in their last meeting, so having them in midfield will be a big boon for this this time around. Hopefully it’s enough to make a difference, because Napoli can’t afford anything less than three points in this match if they want to continue on in the Champions League past the group stage.
