Ciao, Mirko Valdifiori. The Italian midfielder is off to Torino on a permanent transfer as part of Napoli’s deal to acquire Nikola Maksimovic, and his transfer was made official at the same time that Napoli acquired Maksimovic.
Originally thought to be heading to Torino on loan with an option to buy, things changed course in the last day to him just signing the permanent deal now. The fee is technically a €4 million fee, but that’s just offsetting part of the Maksimovic deal as previously agreed between the clubs.
Valdifiori made 16 appearances with Napoli since joining in 2015, including starting this season’s first match. He was decidedly not a strong performer, though, often serving as a lightning rod for criticism for his lackluster displays on the pitch. He will be no great loss for Napoli, as they were aggressive and effective in building midfield depth this summer and he cost them a whopping €2 million last summer.
Farewell, Mirko. Have better luck in Turin — just not against Napoli.
