Injured Hamsik included in matchday squad for Carpi

Despite carrying a sprained ankle, Napoli captain Marek Hamsik will be available to play against Carpi on Wednesday.

After yesterday's news that Marek Hamsik is hurt and that Napoli might be missing their captain against Carpi, there's a small ray of sunshine: Maurizio Sarri named him to the squad of players available for the match.

Don't get too excited, though -- being named to the squad and actually starting -- or even playing -- are two different things. With a huge match against Juventus looming, risking a less-than-100% Hamsik just doesn't make sense for this game, meaning we'll likely see either Omar El Kaddouri start for him with a slight tweak in shape, or David Lopez starting with Allan pushing further forward. If Napoli need a goal late, maybe stick him on, but starting him? No.

Don't be surprised if we see other rotation as well, likely including starts for Dries Mertens and Manolo Gabbiadini. Mirko Valdifiori will likely get another chance as well in order to keep Jorginho fresh for the bigger weekend tilt.

A big deal is being made again about Jonathan De Guzman and Camilo Zuniga being left out of the squad, but they're the 24th and 25th men on the roster in a league that only allow 23 man matchday squads. It's really not that big a thing at the moment.

The full squad available for the match is listed below.

Goalkeepers: Pepe Reina, Gabriel, Rafael Cabral

Defenders: Christian Maggio, Elseid Hysaj, Henrique, Kalidou Koulibaly, Vlad Chiriches, Raul Albiol, Faouzi Ghoulam, Ivan Strinic

Midfielders: Mirko Valdifiori, Jorginho, David Lopez, Allan, Marek Hamsik, Nathaniel Chalobah, Omar El Kaddouri

Forwards: Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon, Lorenzo Insigne, Manolo Gabbiadini, Gonzalo Higuain
