Napoli have named their matchday squad for their match against AC Milan on Sunday, but while there are no surprises in terms of who's in and who's out, there's one story you need to keep an eye on as kickoff approaches: the health of Pepe Reina.
When Napoli left him out of the squad for their match against Legia Warsaw in Poland, we all thought it was simple rotation. Not so, it turns out -- apparently Reina sustained some form of injury during the trip, and has been kept separate in training since the team returns to Italy. The nature of the injury is unknown thanks to sketchy reports, but seem to point to a hip or back issue, the former of which is something that's plagued Reina at times over the last few years.
Reina is currently expected to start the match, but Gabriel has been "placed on alert," so to speak, and the on-loan goalkeeper would be in line to start against his parent club at the San Siro if Reina can't go. Gabriel played fairly well against Legia -- though his distribution was poor at times -- but there's a big difference between performing at that level and playing well against Milan in the San Siro.
In other news, Marek Hamsik and Lorenzo Insigne are back in the squad as expected and have been training fully. The only absences, as usual, are Jonathan De Guzman and Camilo Zuniga. The full squad available for the match on Sunday is listed below:
Goalkeepers: Pepe Reina, Gabriel, Rafael Cabral
