Forget, what Rafa or Albiol have been telling the press. At this point we can all forget about second and pray to San Gennaro that we can managed to hang on to third. At first glance one would think that seven points ahead and only 8 fixtures left would leave us with a firm grasp on the coveted last Champions League spot. I am here to crush any optimism that you might have.
Given our recent form, I can honestly say that I'm not sure we can manage getting any points away to Parma, Udinese or Inter Milan. I'm not saying its out of the realm of possibility, however, Parma are on an absolute hot streak, Udine embarrassed us at the San Paolo and (barring their home loss to Atalanta) Inter have been on a run of decent form as well. Say we do manage to grab at least one draw from those games, that still leaves us with six lost points and a one point buffer between Fiorentina. Maybe I'm just being negative in assuming Fiorentina can grab so many points but do not underestimate this squad's hunger to get something from this season.
The best chances we have at Fiorentina dropping points is at home to Roma, and even then I personally believe the Viola could get a win from that game. Aside from Roma and Verona, every other team that Fiorentina has to play are within the lower half of the table. Unlike us, where half of the teams we r playing are from the upper half of the table.
Perhaps I am so worried because I genuinely believe Fiorentina are a quality side with a hot young coach in Montella. Don't be surprised if this team gets healthy and becomes the Roma of next season. Now I'm not necessarily saying that I think Fiorentina is going to be able to knock us off of our perch. I'm just saying that we should be much more weary of who is behind us rather than who is in front of us. In the meantime I'm going to be wishing some
gufare upon every single game La Viola play. Until next time, Forza Napoli!
