AC Milan vs. Napoli: Confirmed Serie A lineups, match discussion, and carnage

It's time for Napoli to try to beat AC Milan at the San Siro, a match unlikely to be particularly easy, though Filipo Inzaghi has done his best to clear the way for Napoli to do just that.

Stephan El Shaarawy is sitting the bench while Fernando Torres is "out sick," meaning Keisuke Honda and Giacomo Bonaventura are starting on either side of Jeremy Menez in Milan's attack. Their midfield is as bizarre as always, and Milan's back line carries a familiar name that gives a ray of hope to Napoli fans: Pablo Armero, the Human Turnstyle, is starting at left back to the rossoneri.

Napoli have one major surprise in the lineup: Marek Hamsik has been benched for Jonathan De Guzman. This comes in spite of Hamsik's dominating performance against Slovan on Thursday and his status as Napoli's best player when in form, which it looked as though he might be rounding in to again. De Guzman has been in fine form himself, but even at his best he doesn't offer what Hamsik can.

Otherwise, the Napoli lineup is much as expected; the Lopez-Jorginho midfield, Mertens, Higuain, and Mertens in attack, and the first-choice back line with the exception of the suspended Christian Maggio. With both captain and vice-captain out, the armband is expected to go to Giandomenico Mesto, who is making his first Serie A start of the season.

AC Milan: Diego Lopez; Bonera, Mexes, Rami, Armero; Poli, De Jong, Montolivo; Honda, Menez, Bonaventura

Napoli: Rafael; Mesto, Albiol, Koulibaly, Ghoulam; David Lopez, Jorginho; Callejon, De Guzman, Mertens; Higuain
