Marco Donadel has contract canceled, departs Napoli

Just past the end of the transfer deadline, Napoli cut ties with one last bit of deadweight.

Napoli didn't make any signings today, but they did offload one player. Marco Donadel has had his contract canceled by mutual consent, which some Napoli fans are celebrating, as Donadel only played 14 matches for Napoli in two seasons (he spent last year on loan with Hellas Verona), and tended to, ah, not play well when he did take the pitch.

Donadel is now free to sign with any club he likes, which seems likely to be a return to Verona. Hellas Verona expressed an interest in bringing him back but the two clubs couldn't come anywhere near coming to terms on a transfer or loan. It's not as though Donadel was going to play anything resembling an important role for Napoli this season, though, and this clears the way for the long-locked midfielder to reboot his career elsewhere.

Hopefully Donadel finds some measure of success somewhere, because he certainly never did with Napoli. He was once a decent player for Fiorentina before signing with Napoli on a free just over three years ago, but he never showed anywhere near the same quality since then. Even last year with Hellas Verona he was only OK.

Good luck to you, Marco. Hopefully your next contract includes a significant provision for your hair products.
