Different Premier League club set to beat Arsenal to signature of Eduardo Vargas

Quinn Rooney

Napoli is set to lose Eduardo Vargas yet again. That in itself is no surprise. But what is more startling is Vargas's destination. Rumor had it that Arsenal were in prime position to sign the Chilean -- unsurprisingly, after his fantastic performances at the World Cup, plus he could hang out with Alexis Sánchez -- but now it looks like Queens Park Rangers have the advantage.

Yes, rather than head to another side set to compete in Europe, Vargas is now set for some time at a club whose primary goal is to avoid relegation. QPR, promoted this season, lost their home opener on Saturday, and are now anxious to once again start spending some money.

But not too much -- it looks like Vargas will be going out on loan again. Whether that's because Napoli still want a chance to keep the player or because QPR want it that way is uncertain. But the Guardian says there's "a view to a permanent move," so it's probably that QPR wants to test and see how he does in the Premier League first.

It sounds like Edu was saying goodbye to everyone at Castel Volturno this morning. Reports say he'll have a medical in London tomorrow, and the news will be announced shortly thereafter.

But why Napoli can't keep him around remains a mystery.
