After a tough week for Napoli involving two straight matches against Juventus — one a draw and one nothing more than a moral victory as they lost the Coppa Italia semifinal despite winning at home — things are going to get little easier for the partenopei on Sunday. They’re off to the ever-hostile climate of Rome to face Lazio, a matchup that’s rarely easy and made worse by Lazio’s mostly good recent form.
Of course, their most recent match saw Lazio fall to their arch-rivals Roma, the team currently sitting ahead of Napoli in second place in the Serie A table. Napoli can ill-afford to let Lazio re-establish their momentum right now, and it’s going to take a much improved performance from Napoli to get the job done.
It’s perhaps interesting, then, that Napoli are using the same lineup that they employed a week ago against Juventus in a 1-1 draw at home, rather than the lineup that actually beat Juventus at midweek. Of course, bumps and bruises and fatigue — as well as shaky play from a certain central defender — explains some of those changes, but hopefully the squad’s chemistry and form don’t suffer for those decisions from Maurizio Sarri.
