Marek Hamsik unhappy despite good performance

Napoli's captain had a goal and assist in an excellent individual display, but is upset at the result of the match.

During a season in which fans have constantly dogged him for a perceived lack of performance, Marek Hamsik should be happy with what he did yesterday. An excellent goal and a quality assist put Napoli up 2-0 over Inter Milan, but everything fell apart after that and instead of celebrating being the driving force behind a win, the Slovakian is upset at Napoli's lost focus and points.

Speaking to the media this morning, a morose Hamsik tried to sound positive but mostly failed at it.

It was a good battle. We had a two goal lead after an hour of play but we still lost the win. I'm happy for the goal and assist, but it was all ruined by the final score. We could have closed on second place, it was a real shame.

Frankly, Hamsik is right. It was a real shame, and a massive lost opportunity. Perhaps the greatest shame of all, though, is that people will forget just how good he was yesterday. While he perhaps got a little over-exuberant at times in the first half, his drive and quality was at the heart of why Napoli was so good in that first hour. Even after much of the rest of the side took a step back after going up 2-0, Hamsik was still going flat-out trying to make it 3-0. Then he got subbed off at 2-1, and, well, the rest is history.

Let's have fewer disappointments like this, Napoli. Stop making Marekiaro sad.
