Happy 88th birthday, Napoli!

Our beloved club turns 88 today. Let's look back at the life and legend of the club, and how we got here today.

Our beloved Napoli may not be the Old Lady (that'd be Juventus), but she certainly is an old lady: today, August 1st, marks the anniversary of the day that Associazione Calcio Napoli was formed in 1926, the club that would ultimately come to be known as Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli or SSC Napoli, the club we all know and love.

That means that today is Napoli's 88th birthday. Lookin' pretty good for almost 90, eh?

This club has seen a lot of history, both on and off the pitch. Two Scudettos. Five Coppa Italias. A UEFA Cup. Two Serie B wins. One in Lega pro. 32 presidents. 77 managers. Several crests, dozens of kits, hundreds of players, thousands of goals.

And oh yeah, some guy named Diego Maradona. He did some cool stuff for Napoli too.

There have been the highest of highs, like taking two Serie A titles in four years with Maradona leading the squad, and winning a UEFA Cup in between. There have been the lowest of lows, such as when the club was bankrupt and dying before Aurelio De Laurentiis swooped in to save the day a decade ago. There have been countless moments in between, and all of those have brought us to this day.

As the club celebrates its 88th year, Napoli are on the upswing. The last five years have been an incredible journey back to the forefront of not just Italian football, but in Europe as well. De Laurentiis and Rafa Benitez have the club poised for great and tremendous things. The squad is as talented as it has ever been. The fans are hungry, the city is ready, and destiny is calling.

Lets add another Scudetto to the trophy cabinet before the old girl turns 90. Heck, lets add two. I'm sure no one will mind.
