Inter v. Napoli: Lineups And Match Thread

Claudio Villa

The lineups are in for today's showdown at the San Siro, and Rafa Benitez has gone with a slightly unconventional setup (for him) in the attacking midfield area.

Jose Callejon was deemed fit to start after his foot injury in training earlier in the week, so Rafa is resting Marek Hamsik and deploying him along with Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens in the attacking midfield band behind Gonzalo Higuain. It's something we've seen before when Hamsik was out injured, and the speed and interplay of the trio worked well then. Let's hope it's a combination that will still be effective against a depleted Inter defense.

For Inter, Walter Mazzarri responded interestingly to the injury crisis faced by his back line. Instead of moving Esteban Cambiasso back as anticipated, Mazzarri has handed Marco Andreoli his first league start of the season, and just his fifth appearance in all competitions. He also handed 19-year-old Croatian wonderkid Matero Kovacic a third straight start in midfield, just the second time all season he's done so.

Lineups:
Inter Milan: Handanovic; Campagnaro, Ranocchia, Andreolli; D'Ambrosio, Hernanes, Cambiasso, Kovacic, Nagatomo; Palacio, Icardi

Napoli: Reina; Henrique, Albiol, Britos, Ghoulam; Inler, Jorginho; Mertens, Callejòn, Insigne; Higuain
