Napoli v. Swansea: Europa Lineups and Match Thread

Michael Steele

With tired squads and advancement on the line, both Rafa Benitez and Garry Monk have both had to make some adjustments to their preferred lineups in order to try to get a result as Napoli and Swansea City face off in the Europa League round of 32.

Thanks to injuries and fatigue, Monk has been forced to insert Marvin Emnes and Dwayne Tiendalli in to his lineup, which is good news for Napoli. Emnes, a nominal striker being deployed as an attacking mid, has been wildly ineffective for Swansea since joining them on loan last month, and even down a level in the English Championship, he struggled mightily with Middlesbrough. Tiendalli has had some success at right back this season, but in general is bang average on a good day. Hopefully Rafa's squad will be able to take advantage of those weaknesses in Swansea's lineup.

Despite a horror-show of a match last week, Henrique Buss returns to the starting lineup in the place of the recently-marvelous Federico Fernandez. The Brazilian had a tough time containing Wilfried Bony last week, but hopefully Raul Albiol will have better luck against him after missing out last week. Goran Pandev makes his return to the #10 position behind the striker, a decision sure to leave Napoli fans cringing in memory of some of his "displays" there while Marek Hamsik was out injured. As for the Lorenzo Insigne/Dries Mertens debate, Rafa has decided that Merten's just-off finishing from the weekend warranted a match on the bench, and the Italian dynamo gets the nod instead.

Lineups:
Napoli: Reina; Maggio, Henrique, Albiol, Ghoulam; Inler, Behrami; Insigne, Pandev, Callejon; Higuain
Bench: Colombo, Reveillere, Britos, Hamsik, Dzemaili, Mertens, Zapata

Swansea: Vorm; Tiendalli, Williams, Chico, B Davies; Canas, De Guzman; Routledge, Emnes, Pablo Hernandez; Bony
Bench: Tremmel, Amat, Taylor, Rangel, Pozuelo, Dyer, Ngog
