Napoli vs. Bologna, Lineups: Captain Cannavaro left out

Napoli captain Paolo Cannavaro is left out of his side's first match of the season, as the team prepare to face Bologna at the San Paolo.

Giuseppe Bellini

It's here, it's here, it's finally here! Serie A 2013-2014 may have officially begun on Saturday, with AC Milan losing to Hellas Verona (hehe) and Juventus winning at Sampdoria (boo), but we Napoli supporters know that the season really begins today.

Today the partenopei host Bologna at the San Paolo. And this doesn't feel like just one, single, not-very-important, it's-just-the-start-of-the-season match. This is revenge for last season's Bologna victories in Naples. But it's more than that. This game might be an announcement: Napoli are ready to fight for the scudetto. Or it might be an indictment: Rafael Benítez isn't ready to lead this squad to a midtable finish, much less a Champions League fight and a title challenge.

Or it just might be the first match of the season and we shouldn't freak out too much. Yeah. Right.

Lineups

Napoli Starting XI: Reina; Maggio, Albiol, Britos, Zuniga; Inler, Behrami; Callejón, Hamsik, Pandev; Higuain

Notice anything? That's right, captain Paolo Cannavaro has been left out in favor of Miguel Britos. Take from that what you will.

Bologna Starting XI: Curci; Garics; Antonsson; Natali; Cech; Krhin; Della Rocca; Kone; Diamanti; Christodoulopoulos; Bianchi
