Napoli’s struggles in front of goal continue

How did this one end goalless? It’s a question I’m sure Carlo Ancelotti and all of the Napoli players will be asking themselves after this 0-0 draw with Torino at the San Paolo. Napoli were the better side throughout the night but missed chance after chance and were unable to get the better of Torino GK Salvatore Sirigu. The Partenopei dominated possession and had 26 shots (9 of which were on target) yet still were unable to find the back of the net. Arkadiusz Milik was the biggest culprit of the night, as he couldn’t get on the end of a number of well put in crosses, but Lorenzo Insigne had his share of opportunities as well. The return of former Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri to Naples will go down as one of the most frustrating matches of the season. Ancelotti’s men will have to put this match behind them and focus their attention to the midweek clash with Zurich.

Ospina: 6.5 Wasn’t asked to do much of anything which is what makes this draw even more frustrating.

Koulibaly: 7 Solid defensively but lost his cool at the end of the first half and a few times in the second as well. Still one almost every one v one challenge though.

Maksimovic: 7 Looked solid again tonight which is huge considering Napoli may be without Albiol for a long time.

Hysaj: 7 Definitely looks more comfortable on the right side but did a good job given it isn’t his natural position. Really makes me wonder why Ghoulam is so out of favor with Ancelotti right now.

Malcuit: 8 Probably Napoli’s best player this match. Left Aina in his dust countless times throughout the night and tracked back well to thwart any Torino counter attack.

Allan: 6.5 Not his best night but still a solid performance in front of the defense. Thank goodness his second yellow was rightfully taken away after a closer look from VAR.

Ruiz: 6.5 Had a much better match than he did against Fiorentina and almost scored a goal if not for a quality Sirigu save. Should’ve had an assist but Milik’s shot went inches wide.

Zielinski: 7 Looked great in the first half and almost all of the Napoli attack was coming up the left hand side with him and Hysaj. Seemed to get tired as the game went on though.

Callejon: 5 Was absent for far too much of this match and missed a great opportunity to set up Insigne clear on goal when his pass was too far behind Napoli’s captain, ending the momentum of the attack.

Insigne: 5.5 Really should’ve scored his one v one with Sirigu but was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet in the second half after hitting the post.

Milik: 4.5 Was unable to convert on two almost identical clear cut chances where he just missed by a matter of inches.
