Who was Napoli's Player of the Half-Season?

Several players have stepped up in a big way in the first half of the season. Who was the best?

It's been a wild and weird season so far for Napoli. Massive wins, agonizing losses, and frustrating draws have each been found in plenty. So have big goals, horrific mistakes, and, sadly, injuries. While Serie A takes a pause, let's take the chance to look at the season so far... and figure out who the best player for Napoli has been.

It's easy to just look at the goalscoring charts and go from there. Jose Callejon leads the club in scoring in the league, with eight Serie A goals to his name. Take the Europa League in to account and Gonzalo Higuain leads the pack with nine goals, eleven if you count the Supercoppa. Jonathan De Guzman's six goals across both competitions is a solid tally, as are the five and four goals scored by Duvan Zapata and Marek Hamsik, respectively.

But it's about a lot more than just goals. Kalidou Koulibaly has been a huge find in central defense, turning in one top-shelf performance after another. After a shaky start and having to regain the trust of Rafa Benitez, Faouzi Ghoulam has done the same at left back. David Lopez too had to wait awhile before he was given a chance to shine, but shine he has, adding a solidifying defensive presence to the midfield that had been sorely lacking without him., but also adding quality support to the attack.

If you want to use our Man of the Match polls to help you make your decision, well, that only further muddles the picture. The feature has only been run twelve times so far, starting in early October and covering most matches since then. Seven different players have won it outright, with two others sharing one poll win. Hamsik, Koulibaly, and Zapata have each been named Man of the Match twice, with Higuain, Callejon, and Lorenzo Insigne each winning it once. Ghoulam and Gokhan Inler also shared the spoils on one occasion.

Then there's Rafael Cabral. Napoli's goalkeeper has been much-derided by portions of the fanbase, but that doesn't change the fact that he's been very, very good this season. He hasn't been perfect, no, but he's kept Napoli in matches that they had no business hanging around in, and has come up with monumental saves time and again all season long.

So... who's your pick for Napoli's best player of the season so far? Vote in the poll below, and discuss it in the comments! The poll will run until Sunday night, and the winner will have a feature written to exhort his victory.
