Sorry, Napoli fans, but it looks like the dream of further reinforcing the defense, or bringing in another midfielder, must be put on hold until the winter transfer window. Rafa Benítez believes that Napoli are done making transfers, and will do the best they can with the players they have at their disposal.
"Credo che per noi il mercato sia chiuso," Rafa said to Mediaset after Napoli's victory on Sunday night. He thinks the market is closed, in case your Italian is a bit rusty.
That's not to say the manager is totally satisfied. Well, he says he's "satisfied," but then he goes on to remark that Napoli could've brought in some other players. Still, the team will make the best out of what they've got, and Benítez believes he has a talented squad available.
Those of us who watched yesterday's last-gasp win over Genoa may think differently, however. Genoa were able to slice through the Napoli players with the greatest of ease, and if it hadn't been for some wonderful shot-stopping from Rafael, it could well have been the hosts taking all three points.
Of course, it could've just been a bit of rustiness. Gokhan Inler looked like he needed some time to settle, Marek Hamšík needs to get his groove back and Lorenzo Insigne really needs to shake off his doubts. The talent is there. It just needs to start clicking.
